Get My Free QuoteWhat makes an extended warranty cost more?
Mileage, engine type, brand, coverage style, term and claim limits — in roughly that order.
- Higher current mileage — plans are mileage-rated, and some coverage levels have entry caps.
- Turbocharged and diesel engines — more expensive hardware, priced accordingly.
- Luxury and premium brands — parts and labour cost more, so coverage does.
- Exclusionary coverage vs named-component — the "everything unless excluded" style costs more and is usually worth it.
- Longer terms and bigger kilometre allowances — including doubled-allowance options for high-annual-km drivers.
- Higher claim limits — a $10,000-per-visit plan costs more than a $2,500 one, and pays for itself the day you need it.
What makes an extended warranty cost less?
Buying earlier, choosing a named-component tier, or matching the term to how long you will actually keep the car.
- Buying while mileage is lower — the same vehicle costs less to cover at 60,000 km than at 120,000.
- Choosing a named-component tier when your risk tolerance allows.
- A shorter term matched to how long you'll actually keep the vehicle.
How do you pay for an extended warranty?
One-time purchase plus tax, or a monthly plan on select programs; a flat $100 deductible per visit; the administrator pays the shop.
Plans are priced as a one-time purchase, quoted plus tax, and on select programs monthly payment plans are available (a down payment applies). The per-visit deductible on most of our plans is a flat $100. There are no claim fees, and on most plans the claims administrator pays the repair shop directly — you're never fronting a $6,000 bill and waiting for a cheque. How do I compare two extended warranty quotes?
Line them up on five things before you look at the price.
- Same coverage style? (Exclusionary vs named-component is the price difference most often hidden.)
- Same claim limits, per visit and total?
- Same deductible structure — flat per visit, or per component?
- Where is it honoured, and who pays the shop?
- Is tax shown separately? (It should be. Ours always is.)

Common questions
How much does an extended car warranty cost in Canada?
Typically $1,700–$3,300 plus tax for multi-year comprehensive coverage, depending on the vehicle, mileage, coverage level, term and claim limits. High-mileage and luxury vehicles price toward the top of the range.
Is an extended warranty cheaper at the dealership or online?
The programs are often similar — the difference is process. Finance-office pricing frequently has negotiation room built in; buying online gets you a written price to compare on your own time. Always compare coverage style and claim limits, not just the sticker.
Can I pay for an extended warranty monthly in Canada?
Yes, on select programs — a payment plan with a down payment. Cash pricing is a one-time amount plus tax. Ask for both when you quote and compare honestly.
Why do quotes for the same car differ so much between companies?
Usually coverage style (exclusionary vs named-component), claim limits, and deductible structure. A quote that looks $800 cheaper often carries a $3,000 total claim limit — one transmission and it's exhausted.

He started Auto Warranty Experts on a gap he kept seeing from the finance desk: coverage is easy to buy the day you buy the car, and two or three years later — when the factory warranty is actually about to run out — most of the market has no straightforward way to buy it at all. Online he can put several programs in front of one customer and shape the term, coverage and deductible around the vehicle in front of him, rather than selling whatever a single desk happens to carry. "Clients are often shocked by how affordable a warranty can be through us. That's our whole purpose." What he likes most is the long game: relationships that last, built on service worth coming back for. About the team →
